Chinese Mining Accidents Kill 32 This Week : NewsTime : World News
Rescuers in Henan province have recovered 16 bodies from a Dengfeng city colliery which suffered a lethal gas leak earlier this week. A similar incident in the province of Guizhou saw the same number of casualties. Another 43 miners were able to escape with their lives.

Authorities are investigating both accidents. Official figures point to over 2,300 mining related deaths last year but experts warn this number could be higher as a lot of the accidents are covered up.
Chinese authorities have confirmed that the country’s mining industry shed another 32 lives this week.
China’s voracious appetite for coal and other minerals sees most companies pay lip service to safety regulations as they seek to get more coal out and as cheaply as possible. Endemic corruption and inefficiency only serve to exacerbate the problem.
